Top Three 2015 New Home Construction Trends, And Some Trends That Are Going Away
Another great year of the Parade of Homes has passed. Whether you were able to visit any of the homes on the parade this year, if you are currently or thinking about building your new home you might want to know what was showcased. The Parade of Homes is a great opportunity to see the cutting edge designs, colors, and interior choices that are most popular. Each year we see new trends in the home building industry and 2015 is no different. We also see some patterns that begin to fade. Here are the top three 2015 home trends seen at the Parade of Homes and a couple recent trends that are quickly going away.
Is Bigger Really Better?
It may be due to changing perspectives following the recent housing collapse, or the busy lifestyles we have that make it difficult to maintain a large home. However, we are seeing more and more homes being built smaller instead of larger. Moreover, technology is allowing more amenities in smaller spaces than ever before. While there are still some amazingly massive homes and many moderately sized ones, don’t be surprised by the shrinking square footage that is currently prevalent.
Natural and Warm
These are two terms that are often used when describing one’s desired home, but often the meaning is misunderstood. For 2015, the words point to using raw materials in a natural state, or choosing manufactured materials that resemble natural materials. Excellent examples are rough-cut stone and heavily grained woods. Finishes are also less glossy and smooth as in the past as more and more desire the natural beauty of the materials to shine through.
Wide Open Spaces
Also, open floor plans and spaces are not new by any means; however we see more and more studio-like rooms even in family homes. Families are enjoying a more robust feeling of togetherness in homes with limited walls. Windows in these open plans are also very trendy right now allowing a feeling as if the home were an extension of the beauty outdoors.
Going Out Of Style
Some of the past trends that we are beginning to see fading in 2015 include the use of brass fixtures, built-in desk areas, and whirlpool bathtubs. Tiled countertops in the kitchen and faux finishes on the walls are also on their way out. Of course, the beauty of building your own home is that you have the freedom to do whatever you’d like regardless of what may be popular. However, we strongly suggest staying away from burnt-orange shag carpeting.
